Tarwin Lower
Tarwin Lower is quiet. It is a through-town. The kind of place that seems like it’s on the way to or from somewhere else. This only adds to the value of Tarwin Lower. It preserves it, keeps it simple, like a secret.
The river defines the town. More than just physically. Tall reeds line the riverbank, adding to the sense of quiet solitude. On a quiet day, standing on the other side of the bank, you’d be forgiven for not knowing the town was there.
The main road through town is lined with trees, and the old buildings have been repurposed. A couple of inviting cafes and a little motel. The main gathering spot in town is the local pub, the Riverside Hotel. The verandah floor slopes toward the road, bearing the weight of countless visitors over the years. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent and most importantly, the lady behind the bar knows how to pour a near perfect beer.
